I appreciate the apology... was for sure bothered by "Sorry to Bother You"

Hey Yallllllll what’s really good? So I have officially moved out here to NOLA and have been here for the last 2 weeks or so. Of course my lame ass has like no friends besides the creatures lurking around my apartment (Wasps, Spiders and “Palmetto bugs” OH MY!)... and a few cool peeps I know through mutual friends so I have been spending a lot of time alone. To cure some of this boredom I decided to do my fav activity which is attending the movies alone looking busted with that student discount ready okuurrrttt. This week I decided to check out the movie “Sorry to Bother You” which seemed hip, trendy and socially aware.

Of course I checked it out for the possible social commentary but mostly I went to see it because I have unholy desires for 90 percent of the cast not limited to but including, Tessa “I am mostly straight but sexual fluidity though...” Thompson, Lakeith “Can I call you Zaddy?” Stanfield, Steven “I am ready for my Blasian babies” Yeun, Omari “You trifflin but I'd still hit” Hardwick and last but not at all least Jermaine “I’ll be a pick-me for you” Fowler.

So yeah, I went for the fine ass cast and the assumption I would possibly relate to the story line, but what I didn't realize was that I would leave that movie triggered, disturbed and confused by its accuracy, intelligence, and unfortunate ending (don't worry no spoiler alerts). Instead of a movie review with spoilers I am just going to list out who would relate to this movie most and who really needs that young #triggerwarning before you check it out:

  1. Anyone who has ever worked in Sales or at a Call Center.

-This goes for the homies of every race and social status. If you have worked in sales or at a call center you know how trash it is to be judged off of ya numbers everyday. There is no bad day in sales you better come to work chipper and ready to be hung up on all day/ cussed out by people you ain't even really tryna sale shit to. The most tragic and toxic environment.

  1. Anyone who has to code switch at work and or has to ignore some of their values to make it at they job.

-At 25 I have about 80 different voices some that come to mind are: my regular voice, my round the way girl voice, my vegan/ I care about the environment voice, my typical white girl voice, my latina voice, my woke voice, my blavity voice, my “I am a cultured bitch” voice, my sorority voice...I can go on all day. Every now and then I have a day where I have to use several of these in one day or forget to turn one off. Ever accidentally called a white friend the “n word” the true struggle.

  1. Black people who work in corporate environments and have had to “sell out” to get higher on the ladder.

-One of my grad school interviews was in a recently gentrified city and during the interview I agreed with the interviewer about how exciting it was that so many “new and innovative” businesses were popping up (where many family and black owned businesses were shut down). Not my best moment.

  1. Anyone who does recreational drugs.

-Imma just leave this one here cuz my parents read this blog and we all know I am a sober angel! But leave that white powder in the 80s yall! Crack (and Cocaine) are WACK!

  1. Anyone who has been or has relatives in Prison or is familiar with the fact Prisons are truly sweatshops. (Self-explanatory)
  1. Bobby Shmurda, Desiigner, and people like dems (When you see the movie you will understand).
  1. All Millennials who don’t have Trust Funds, are not the Kardashians, and have to slave away their whole life to survive when they just want to actually live and have fun instead of waking up at 9 and working for 8 hours and praying for the weekend for 80 years until you die and then you like damn why was I even born if this is all there is like shit could I have at least had a fatter ass or something to make my life easier?...

-Okay that went a little further than I expected but you get the point.

Anyway ya’ll the movie was fire and you will for sure leave the film thinking about your life, the state of the world and what to do to try to make ya life have meaning.

...Good shit.

And even if you hate it at least you got to spend two hours drooling over a whole bunch of fine people (not like I did this or anything, just saying).
